Materials that age well

We look for materials that weather rather than degrade — stone, concrete, timber, brass and tile that gain character as they are used. Their surfaces can be repaired and their appearance improves with time.

This is a practical approach as much as an aesthetic one. A finish that cannot be locally maintained will not last, however good it looks in a sample book.

Choosing well also reduces waste. Fewer replacements, fewer failures, and a building that stays in use — which is the most sustainable outcome available to us.
